If This Were a Story is a book about a girl named Hannah. She has been finding mean notes that say things like, "Nobody Likes Hannah," in her locker. She has a stuffed animal named Ambrose, and she tells him everything before she goes to bed.

One day when Hannah gets home from school, her dad is home. This is unusual because he builds houses and isn’t home very often. She asks him what happened, and he tells her when you build houses for people, they can change their mind, and you lose your job, and tha'ts what happened to him.

When she gets to school the next day, she finds another note next to her locker and is asked to talk to the school counselor. She keeps asking questions about the notes when suddenly Hannah blurts out, “Please don’t make me talk about the notes.” Then her counselor asks for a meeting with Hannah’s parents.

While Hannah is at a field trip, the counselor and Hannah's parents search for handwriting samples to figure out who is writing the notes. The matching handwriting is a surprise to everyone!

Opinion:

If This Were a Story is a great book. I love how the book made you wonder if anything similar could happen. I would have liked a little more description. Sometimes I felt like there weren't enough details about where Hannah was or what she was doing.

This is a good book for ages 9+. It's a little bit complicated for younger readers, but it has a good life lesson. I think that kids who like adventure books would like this type of book. I also think this is a great book because it had you thinking about what would happen next, no matter what point you were at in the book. Overall, the book was excellent.
