I Want My Mummy! is the first in a series of Ms. Frogbottom's Field Trips. This early chapter book with pictures shares the story of Ms. Frogbottom's fourth grade class and their field trip to an ancient country.  Her class is made up of a few students by the names of Tony, Oliver, Olivia, Sofia, Emma, and Aiden.  This is a class of different personalities and behaviors.  Ms. Frogbottom has a special way of teaching with one kind of teaching resource.  It all starts out with a student who needs a bandage and the adventure begins and the reader's interest in learning about the world also begins.

Opinion:

Nancy Krulik has written I Want My Mummy!  Ms. Frogbottom's Field Trips as the first in a series.  This young person's novel would be perfect to teach geography and culture that could be carried into other subjects across the curriculum.  There is a glossary at the end of the book that could be used for a vocabulary and/or spelling tests.  Throughout the book, there are black boxes that are Ms. Frogbottom's Rules, and these could be used to teach lessons in history and social skills as well as other social studies lessons. The illustrations throughout the book are in black outlines and gray in color, but I feel that they would make good coloring pages for an art project where the teacher could have each student pick a picture and then decide which colors would work best to use a reader's imagination.  This book allows young children to learn about a new place and its culture while experiencing an adventure.
