Essence of Amethyst by T.L. Garrett is a young adult romance novel with fantasy adventures that features romantic tensions and layers of emotional depth. The novel tells the adventures that follow Essence and Kieran as they both search for a powerful enchanter known as Merlin. As lost memories begin to resurface, Essence is compelled to discover her true self. Along the way, she faces an enemy that threatens to stop her from reclaiming her past. During the same period, Essence’s parents, the King and Queen of Aero, get trapped in a prison, and their fate gets tied to the outcome of Essence’s quests.
What do you think will happen? Will her enemies be able to gain full control of her past before she will discover the secrets connected to her past?
Opinion:
Essence of Amethyst is a fast-paced novel that will resonate with readers of the fantasy genre. The plot is a quest narrative pointing to the fact that Essence's main goal was to seek an enchanter named Merlin, who was the key to unlocking her memories. As I progressed further, I appreciated how Garrett balances narrative with mystery, which resulted from the complication of Essence's lost memory. While it focuses on young adults, troupes such as lost identity and hidden powers were also highlighted.
Aside from the plot, the setting created a backdrop that seemed overly magical and celestial. The Constellation Kingdoms mentioned in the book provided a nice atmosphere in my mind as a reader. I felt a sense of wonder as my thoughts wandered across the magical realms. Each of the kingdoms had its rulers, culture, and atmosphere, and as Essence traveled through these realms with Kieran, they encountered different environments and even challenges. Garrett's use of this setting in the story gave the book a dreamy and mythic feel.
Essence as a character is a vulnerable but resilient young lady owing to the fact that she grew stronger despite her amnesia. The fact that she had lost her memories did not weigh her down; instead, it was on that basis that she started to connect the dots leading back to her past. She was also very cautious with an urge for self-knowledge. This was what drove her to uncover secrets even when they frightened her. One thing I learned from Essence was that her memory loss was a symbol of identity in flux, which elucidated the truth that we are all shaped by the choices we make and what we remember. She was written as a relatable character, a determined and cautious heroine, which makes her both unpredictable and perfect for the role.
To conclude, I would say that Essence of Amethyst is a heartfelt fantasy novel with strong emotion. It is also one with the ideal character, captivating setting, and overall, an intriguing plot. Essence of Amethyst is one book of T.L. Garrett's fantasy romance series that delves further into self-discovery and is best for readers who appreciate romance-driven books and those who want a fast-paced, immersive plot. Fans of adventure novels mixed with romance will enjoy this quest-driven story, and they would also appreciate the growing bond between Essence and Kieran. This novel can be compared to Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, and people who have read the book would also come to love Essence of Amethyst by T.L. Garrett.
