Daire Santos has so much more to learn about her destiny -- to become a Soul Seeker and protect her small New Mexican town from the evil Richters. The Richters, a family that practices black magic, has now infiltrated the Lowerworld, and with an undead army on their side, they won't stop until they have complete control over the world. But not every one of them is evil; Dace Richter is completely opposed to his family's ethics and has instead chosen to help Daire stop his relatives from recking chaos. But, time is not on Dace and Daire's side -- they need to learn more magic in order to take on the Richters. Can they master their skills and repair the damage in the Lowerworld as well as prevent any more from happening?

Opinion:

I do not like this book at all because the plot is very slow and progresses at a slug's pace. There are a lot of unnecessary details that don't advance the plot; they only leave the reader feeling more confused. I feel that the plot has a lot of potential and could've been made into a great story, but Alyson Noel made it into a book that made me instantly regret picking it up. The one reason I would give this book a two-star rating is the characters. I enjoy some of Daire's humorous friends such as Xotichl and Lita -- they made the book bearable. Like I said before, another author could have made this book into a sensation, but Alyson Noel made it into a book with a dragging plotline. I would not recommend this book to anyone, but if someone wants to give this book a try, kids ages 12 and up should read it due to some mature content.
