LitPick Review
Delano in Hollyhook is a story about Delano, a sixteen year old orphan boy, and the adventures he encounters. One day Delano is asked of he would want to stay for two weeks at a camp called Camp Hollyhook, where there is no sickness and happiness thrives all day long unlike the "Dull World" (planet Earth) where sickness thrives and happiness does not. When Delano gets to Camp Hollyhook he notices that everybody is split into different misfit groups: The Dours, who are really depressing; The Angries, who have anger problems; The Quirks, who are a little too happy; The Orphans, who don't have any parents; and The Lonelies, who have no friends. Delano then makes unexpected new friends--Jackie, who is a quirk, Lenore, who is a dour, and Wheeze, who is a Lonely. Together Delano and his friends discover things that just don't fit right about this fantasy place, and set off on an adventure to find out who Delano actually is and what really happened to his parents.
Opinion:
This is a very energetic book told from the perspective of the main character, Delano, and how he sees his friends and the different journies they venture on. I personally really loved this book and think it was very well written, but every now and then there were a few punctuation and spelling errors. The author did a nice job of explaining the different parts of the story. He never rambled on, but gave you just enough details. One of my favorite characters other than Delano was Lenore, because even though she wasn't very positive, she still figured out a lot of the problems in the book.
