LitPick Review
Leah Hawthorne seems like any other 18-year-old who is fresh out of high school. She has an overprotective older brother, John, and she works at a diner. Despite her ordinary appearance, Leah is much more than that. She has visions that let her see the future and is actually an angel. So when a powerful demon second to Satan himself comes to claim her, she meets Dean and Garret, who are angels themselves, and discovers that there are more people like her. She joins their group, The Protectors. But when John’s life is in danger, she has two choices: wait for the Protectors to make a move, or turn her back on them and save John herself no matter the cost.
Opinion:
One could really relate with Leah from the start. The thought of being eighteen makes you feel like you are independent now and can do things on your own without anyone holding you back. That’s exactly how Leah feels, and it makes sense that she wants some freedom since her older brother John is super protective. As you read further, you come to realize that all that protectiveness from everyone is for a reason. The book really makes you think about the people in your own life who are always on your back and see things in a new way.
Her constant anger towards the people who try to protect her and make her feel vulnerable makes her easy to relate to. It gives feeling to the story. Her conflicting feelings toward a guy named Garret adds to the series of events that occur in her life. Her life went crazy when she realized the truth about her life. That’s how it is in real life: The truth turns everything upside down because sometimes it’s not what you expect.
Bound to the Ground has the perfect balance of suspense, drama, and love. It leaves you wanting to read more. I could literally not stop reading it, and I would definitely recommend it. I loved the book despite the heart piercing cliffhanger!
