Birdwatcher 2 by Ann Greyson is a paranormal horror book that is a sequel to the first Birdwatcher novel. This book starts up a few months after the funeral for Abigail Wincoff that occurred in the first book. Joey Marks is a serial killer who has so far eluded justice and has been living it up dreaming of his past kills while plotting out his next kill for his 32nd birthday. Little does he know though that the police and Detective Philip Silverwood are closing in on the true identity of Ryan Messer. All the mother of Abigail Wincoff desperately seeks is to have her daughter’s soul separated from the demon who possess it. Will Joey Marks be brought to justice for the young lives he cut short? Will Reverend Claude Bonanni be able to exercise the demon from Abigail’s soul? Who will win and who will meet their end?

Opinion:

Birdwatcher 2 by Ann Greyson was a pretty good read, though I really wish there was a timeline of events from the previous book or a recap of the important events, as I personally found it a bit difficult to get into it at first without having read the previous book. That aside, while it took me a bit to understand everything, I still found myself enjoying this mixer of horror, supernatural, and mystery. One of the aspects I really liked was how the author kept changing perspectives between different characters as it kept offering me a fresh perspective. This character switching also help me to really get to know the cast of characters. It was rather grabbing the way the author began the book with what I originally thought to be Joey Marks killing a victim only to then find out that it was actually him reliving a past kill in his dreams. Even though the kill had already happened, it still grabbed my attention with a longing to have him brought to justice for it and a desire to keep reading to see it happen. Once of the characters I really sympathized with was Estelle Rowland, a waitress who had seen a man staring at Abigail before she was killed. I really felt for her and her maelstrom of what ifs that she kept going through wondering if she could have saved Abigail if she had said something to her parents. I loved how complex and three dimensional the characters of this book were. In fact, I loved the book so much by the end that I now want to go read the first one!
