The Adventures of Chii: Shadows of Valoria by Alisanya is a fantasy novel about a catgirl as she ventures to uncover the mystery behind the loss of her father and the people of her village. Chii is a young catgirl, who has lost her father and neighbors due to the presence of a shadowy mist that appeared in their village. After their disappearance, she was captured by a group of humans, who sold her into slavery. Her life in captivity was very painful as she had to face the cruelty of various masters. One day, her master, a merchant, was attacked by some bandits, and as they attacked him, she decided to escape. With her newfound freedom, she embarked on a journey to discover the underlying truth about the disappearance of her father.

Opinion:

The adventures of Chii explores the life of a young catgirl, and her struggles and challenges as she strives to disclose what really happened in her village years back. While reading, I acknowledged the author's style of writing. The language used was elaborate, and the description of the characters and places was very vivid. The plot was unevenly paced, and with it, suspense which was a page-turner.  I was unable to predict the outcome of some actions. Within the 322 pages of the book, I was drawn in by the beautiful and colorful pictures in the book. These pictures clearly explained and aided in the description of characters and certain places. The characters shaped the book, and I loved the diversity in the use of the characters. Apart from humans, it had fairies and even catgirls as characters. Each character played their role well, which further enriched the story and fit the fantasy genre. The novel was set in different locations such as the village where Chii grew up, the forest where she met the fairies, the city of Argentis which is the capital of Valoria where she fought in a tournament, and some other locations.  I enjoyed every part of the novel.
