The Chronicles of Egg: Deadweather and Sunrise
Synopsis: A stunning middle-grade debut--full of heart, humor, and nonstop action

It's tough to be thirteen, especially when somebody's trying to kill you.

Not that Egg's life was ever easy, growing up on sweaty, pirate-infested Deadweather Island with no company except an incompetent tutor and a pair of unusually violent siblings who hate his guts.

But when Egg's father hustles their family off on a mysterious errand to fabulously wealthy Sunrise Island, then disappears with the siblings in a freak accident, Egg finds himself a long-term guest at the mansion of the glamorous Pembroke family and their beautiful, sharp-tongued daughter Millicent. Finally, life seems perfect.

Until someone tries to throw him off a cliff.

Suddenly, Egg's running for his life in a bewildering world of cutthroat pirates, villainous businessmen, and strange Native legends. The only people who can help him sort out the mystery of why he's been marked for death are Millicent and a one-handed, possibly deranged cabin boy.

Come along for the ride. You'll be glad you did.

Synopsis: It is 1936 and Lieutenant Commander Toshio Miyazaki of the Imperial Japanese Naval Intelligence (INJI) Directorate and member of the secret Black Dragon Society receives a new mission. He is to steal the secret US Naval radio codes that keep American communications secure. Miyazaki is pleased as the mission provides another opportunity to kill Nick Grant.

Nick's family moves to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, out of the reach of Miyazaki and the Black Dragons. In Rio, Nick is reunited with his old boss, Bill Grooch. But Grooch is really there to recruit Nick into the US Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). ONI has missions for Nick under the guise of being a Pan American pilot.

The duo fly to Stratford, Connecticut, to pick up a new Sikorsky S-43 amphibian and fly it to Alameda. Meanwhile, Miyazaki has arrived in San Francisco. He steals the US Naval codes and escapes on a French passenger ship headed for Shanghai, China. Grooch comes up with a mad plan: Fly ahead to Shanghai and use Nick as bait to trap Miyazaki. If the Black Dragon bites, Nick and Grooch will recover the stolen codes. It's risky but Nick has sworn to make Miyazaki pay for murdering both Mac, his mentor, and Roger Tanaka, his friend.

Join Nick on his most dangerous mission to date, where he risks all to settle an old score.

Justice (Deck of Lies, #1)
Synopsis: A House of Cards...

When you build an entire life on a foundation of lies, it only takes one truth for the whole thing to come crashing down. I never invited the truth in. I never went searching for it. I never had any reason to suspect that the two people I loved most were dishonest with me every second of every day.

I made one bad decision, and in a single day my entire world changed. If I'm ever going to discover the truth about myself and my parents, I have to trace all the lies back to their source. I have to try to find the truth that they're hiding.

The more I discover about myself, and my past, the more I realize that lies really are better than the truth. But now that I know the lies are all around me, I can't stop until I've discovered them all. I'll pull each lie away, one by one, and examine it to see what's underneath...until this house of cards crumbles into dust at my feet.

I just hope I can survive the crash.

Normally the idea of being stuck on a tiny boat with her parents and little sister would make Clem break out in hives, but floating away sounds pretty good right now. Then she meets James at one of their first stops along the river. He and his dad are sailing for the summer and he's just the distraction Clem needs. Can he break down Clem's walls and heal her broken heart? Jennifer Quintenz, Jennifer Quintenz
Synopsis: Braedyn is a normal girl just trying to survive high school with her two devoted friends, Royal and Cassie. Together they're doing a pretty good job of shrugging off the slings and arrows cast their way by the popular crowd when a new boy, Lucas, moves into the house next door. Suddenly Braedyn finds herself falling in love for the first time.

But as her sixteenth birthday approaches, Braedyn discovers humankind is at war with the Lilitu, an ancient race of enticing demons that prey on human souls. Her father is a member of the Guard fighting against the Lilitu - and so are the new neighbors, including her crush, Lucas.

As her world starts to unravel at the seams, Braedyn learns the right answers aren't always clear or easy. And as for "good" and "evil" - it all depends on how we choose to act.

Inspired by the ancient Mesopotamian myths of Lilith and her offspring, Thrall explores first love, strong friendships, and taking on adult responsibilities against the backdrop of powerful supernatural forces and life-and-death stakes.

The Rock of Ivanore (The Celestine Chronicles)
Synopsis: The annual Great Quest is about to be announced in Quendel, a task that will determine the future of Marcus and the other boys from the village who are coming of age. The wizard Zyll commands them to find the Rock of Ivanore, but he doesn’t tell them what the Rock is exactly or where it can be found. Marcus must reach deep within himself to develop new powers of magic and find the strength to survive the wild lands and fierce enemies he encounters as he searches for the illusive Rock. If he succeeds, he will live a life of honor; if he fails, he will live a life of menial labor in shame. With more twists and turns than a labyrinth, and a story in which nothing is at it seems, this tale of deception and discovery keeps readers in suspense until the end.

Middle readers will find that The Rock of Ivanore fits nicely among the traditional fantasies they so enjoy. They will also appreciate its fresh and inventive take on the genre.
