I read the book The Flint Heart by Katherine and John Paterson.  This book is about a heart made out of flint.  The heart makes the owner have a hard heart.  They are mean and unkind to everyone around them.  When they figure out what is making them so mean and try to get rid of the heart someone else finds it and becomes just as mean.  Finally, a boy named Charles finds a way to get rid of the heart forever.  When Charles decides to get rid of the heart he finds himself in the middle of an adventure with Jacky Toads, moles and other creatures.  The mole was the last creature to find the flint heart.  He became mean to everyone including his wife.  The dogs brought the mole out of his hole with the heart after a bloody fight. Charles removed the flint heart from the mole and broke it into pieces with a hammer.  The king, the queen and the Lord HIgh Chancellor all throw pieces into the sky, the water and the earth.

Opinion:

At firstt I thought the book might not realy be very interesting.  The cover made me think that it might be too much of a fantasy book for my tastes.  But, I was pleasantly surprised.  I enjoyed this book very much.  The book was full of adventure and great storytelling.  One of my favorite parts is when Charles meets Mr. De Quicney.  Mr. De Quincey is a fairy who invites Charles to a banquet.  I enjoyed the illustrations and liked how they added to the story.  I think I would like to read more from these authors some time soon.
