LitPick Review
In Lulu Delacre's Spanish picture book "Rafi and Rosi Piratas!" two tree frog siblings are eager to explore El Morro Fort. Along the way they learn about Puerto Rico's history whilst participating in pirate battles. They learn about the life of Roberto Cofresi, a famous Puerto Rican pirate, and the importance of El Morro Fort in Puerto Rican history. As they go through the fort, they discover some treasure that isn't theirs. After the two decide to turn it in to the museum, they reach a disagreement. Rosi isn't done playing while Rafi wants to go home. Rosi decides to hide in the stone sentry box that once housed the lookout guards. The two curious tree frog's later discover it's haunted!

These siblings have a strong bond that could teach valuable lessons to young readers. When Rafi and Rosi begin to panic after getting lost in the fort, they remember they have each other, and it provides them comfort and strength to keep going. I recommend this book to read in the classroom as it is interesting and informative. K-2nd graders would best enjoy following Rafi and Rosi’s adventures. In order to read and comprehend this book, you would have to be fluent in Spanish as the whole book is written in this language. The detailed and colorful illustrations help readers comprehend what they're learning and stay focused. “Rafi and Rosi Pirates” is a good choice for readers looking to stay entertained and learn valuable information in the process.
