LitPick Review
The Player King is a very favorable story about a poor boy by the name of Lambert Simnel. Lambert has never been more than just a dirty kitchen servant, and he doesn’t think he will ever be anything else. His circumstances change one night when a mysterious friar, Brother Simonds, purchases him and takes him far away. From there, Lambert is thrust into a plot to become a decoy king in a plan to overthrow a kingdom. Lambert goes through many changes and learns things about himself he would have never known otherwise. Will this plot work? Will Lambert actually become a king and be favored by many, or will his conspiracy be found out?
Opinion:
I enjoyed this book. It was very easy to follow, and I liked the plot. I did find it a bit boring in the middle, and I found myself losing focus. It just didn’t seem to have enough excitement to propel the story forward. I did like the characters very much. The author did a great job of expressing the characters’ emotions and feelings, making it easy for me to connect. If you enjoy reading renaissance material, then this might be just the book for you.
