In WhipEye by Geoffrey Saign, the main character, Samantha, and her neighbor, Jake, get mixed up in an ancient rivalry between Samantha's best friend, Charlie, who is a parrot, and an evil man named Magnar. Magnar wants to kill Charlie because he is the last of his kind of creatures. He is special because he will live for thousands of years and collect great knowledge and power. Samantha and Jake travel into an enchanted land called KiraKu and must protect Charlie for 24 hours or else he could die and Magner would take over the KiraKu! Will they be able to succeed or will Magnar win and destroy everything?

Opinion:

I thought this book was good. It was so exciting and was bursting with adventure. The pace is very fast, which keeps the reader interested. The author goes to great lengths to describe KiraKu in a way that makes you feel as though you can reach out and touch it. The best part about this book is the character Charlie.

At times the book moves too fast, and I had trouble keeping pace. This book might be best for super fantasy fans who are over 12.
