BRAiN RIDE
Broken limbs heal in eight weeks. What happens when your brain gets busted? Jason’s best friend died the day of the bike accident. The guy who woke up from the coma is nothing like the old Logan. His memory has more holes than Swiss cheese, and he can’t count to ten. Doc explains the changes in Logan come from a traumatic brain injury. But words don’t make dealing with Logan or his condition any easier. He’s more impulsive than a toddler, and his black moods strain the boys’ friendship. To cope, Jason turns to his sketchbook. PB, Logan’s tutor, encourages Jason. Together, they help Logan face a painfully slow recovery. When circumstances threaten to tear the friends apart, PB offers a solution. The catch: Jason must train for BRAN, an organized bike ride, and Logan has to get on a bike again. Jason reluctantly agrees only to battle flat tires, bad weather, and road hazards. Logan struggles against his uncooperative brain and unresponsive body. Relearning to walk is challenge enough. How can he ever ride a bike? Will the two friends give up? Or will Jason and Logan let adversity take them on the ride of their lives? “. . . a spectacular read. A rare combination of an experience that must-be-told and a story that can’t-be-put down.” —Kathy Mackel, author of Can of Worms, Mad Cat, Boost

Blackveil
Kristen Britain
Magic, danger, and adventure abound for messenger Karigan G'ladheon in author Kristen Britain's New York Times-bestselling Green Rider fantasy series • "First-rate fantasy." —Library Journal Over a millennium ago, Mornhavon the Black, heir to the Arcosian Empire, crossed the great sea hoping to conquer Sacoridia. Mornhavon and his armies were defeated—but not before their general had resorted to desperate, dark magic that rendered his twisted spirit immortal. Finally, Mornhavon was captured and imprisoned in Blackveil Forest, and the forest’s perimeter was sealed by the magical D’Yer Wall. In the many centuries since, knowledge of magic has disappeared from Sacoridia due to the fear and prejudice of a people traumatized by the memory of Mornhavon’s terrifying sorceries. Even the protective magic that created and maintained the D’Yer Wall has been lost, and the once-impermaeable barrier has been breached, allowing Blackveil’s malignant influence to seep into the lands beyond once again. Karigan G’ladheon is a Green Rider—a seasoned member of the elite messenger corps of King Zachary of Sacoridia. But Karigan is no ordinary Rider, for she can traverse the barriers of time and space. Because of this extraordinary ability, she was able to transport the spirit of Mornhavon into the future, buying precious time for her country. During the window of relative safety, King Zachary decides to send Karigan and a small contingent of scouts, accompanied by a small group of Eletians—a magical race who once lived in the lands now tainted by Mornhavon’s magic—into Blackveil Forest. Though Mornhavon is gone, the forest is still a treacherous and unnatural place filled with monstrous creatures and deadly traps. Plus, no one knows how far in the future Mornhavon has been sent—Ten years? One? Maybe even less. And unbeknownst to the band of Eletians and Sacoridians, another small group has entered the forest—Arcosian descendants who have kept Mornhavon’s dark magic alive in secret for centuries, and who now plan to avenge their long-ago defeat by bringing Sacoridia to its knees.

The Loyal Servant and the Faithful Donkey (Carol's Parables)
Carol Teasdale
The Loyal Servant and the Faithful Donkey is a short story for both adults and children. It's loosely based on the ‘Parable of the Tenants’ in Matthew 21:33-41 and Mark 12:1-10. The story touches on our array of human nature, from its most beautiful and loving, to its ugliest and most foul. The tenant's are a family who are rescued out of impending poverty by a kindly farmer and given a second chance, but they forget the grace he had afforded them. Instead they become embroiled in their own bitterness, envy and greed. The consequences are dire for the farmer’s servants, son and eventually the family too.The story focuses on the donkey who dutifully pulls the cart that takes the servants to the vineyard. Before leaving for distant lands, the farmer and his new tenants had made an agreement that the rent would be paid with a share of the harvest. However, when the time comes, the donkey returns to the farmer again and again with injured servants and an empty cart. This eventually leads to a misunderstanding and the donkey being brutally beaten by a crowd, instigated by one of the servant’s wives. The story takes some unexpected twists and turns as the woman learns a powerful lesson of forgiveness, and true friendship triumphs over evil. I hope that you enjoy this story and will be inspired to read the Parable.
