LitPick Review
The Walk On is a sports novel about a freshman trying to secure a spot on his new town's high school football team. But he has to go through the coach's son to become starting QB. Though everyone knows he is the best quarterback, the coach won't accept him. He has to do something big. When he becomes third string QB, he is not happy that he is under a second string QB who can barely do anything. He slowly becomes more respected, and eventually becomes a sensation. With his new friends and an undeafeted team, he is able to carry them to the playoffs. But then he is kicked off the team for steroid use in the first round. He needs to clear his name before his team loses, but results take forever to come out after his second test. And until then, he needs to find out how this all went wrong.
Opinion:
The Walk On is a very well written and very intriguing book. The games in the book are very well described. It lets you know the characters and get hooked on conflicts between players and coaches. There is great vocabulary describing each play and you can tell Feinstein worked hard to emphasize each moment in the book. You won't want to put this book down. I give it 41/2 stars out of 5.
