The history of unicorns is a book that describes the evolution of the mythical creature that started about 2300 years ago. The book traverses through the creation of the fictional character of unicorn, how it takes a life of its own through adaptation of the character by various authors around the world, and how it eventually manifests into people thinking they sighted a unicorn. The book continues to build upon how the story of unicorns eventually made it to different parts of the world including its influence in holy books such as The Bible and Mahabharata. The author describes how the unicorns continue to influence different times of the world such as the medieval period, its impact across various aspects of human life such as marriage and love, and finally leading to evolution of yet another myth: the secret power of unicorns.

Opinion:

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars for ages 8-12. I like how the author has researched different events in the history of unicorns instead of just sticking to one event. The author builds interest in the book by describing the evolution of unicorns in chronological order:  the evolution of unicorns from scary and harmful animals to the time they turn into magical fantasy creatures that were adored globally. The book made me wonder how myths and fantasies transformed into reality for people during the medieval times, making unicorns very popular even today. For example, in the olden days, people bought the so-called "unicorn tusks" for millions of dollars and used them for curing diseases. I liked how the author has attempted to supplement the story with unicorn illustrations; however, I believe the book would benefit from clearer illustrations to help build more curiosity for the readers.
