Life is full of sorrows and joys, so we never know when we'll go from one extreme to the other. In Tyrel Nelson's case, his lifestyle goes through major changes. At first, he tells us about his father, how dedicated he was, and how he always supported him. Then he tells us about his own life and travels, like when he went to Mexico and Guatemala. But he doesn't forget his friends and girlfriend. Later, he describes how he was shocked to discover that his father had cancer. At that moment everything changed, but he was able to spend beautiful moments with his father and create memories that, thanks to this book, will live on.

Opinion:

Those Darn Stripes shows us unique life experiences with a strong emotional impact. Tyrel Nelson is a great example of resilience. He shows us how circumstances take him from one place to another and how he adapts. There are sad and happy situations, including funny moments like when he gets lost in a giant hedge maze on a walk. And I loved that he included amazing photographs of the places he has visited. Tyrel Nelson tells us about the people he values most in his life with a charming, honest, and relatable narrative. Each chapter feels like being on a new journey because his descriptions are detailed and his emotions are clear.

The only detail to consider is that on occasion he uses Spanish words related to his travels. Although they are simple expressions, including their translations in footnotes would facilitate comprehension and maintain fluency. Even so, Those Darn Stripes is a fantastic reading that invites us to appreciate every day from a new perspective and to reflect on life and death.
