Beau Devereaux is a teenage psychopath who struggles to maintain a respectable image. His dad is a well-known business owner, and Beau is expected to take over the family business one day. Beau is quarterback of the school football team and has a reputation of being a good sport. However, Beau has dark demons struggling to come out. The river, a place where Beau and his buddies like to party, is the only place where Beau's demons come out to play. The river has an Abbey where Beau can inflict pain on others in private, and with a well know rich family, there is no one to stop him. This story shows the struggles of a person who yearns to be something dark and maintain a good image for the sake of his family. This book is mature content and contains rape.

Opinion:

This is a great psychological thriller, but I only recommend this book to readers who can handle reading about bullying and sexual harasment.  The author does not shy away from the raw reality from a twisted world. A good bit of the story is written from Beau's point of view, and it gave me an insight of how the mind of a psychopath works. I like how this thriller depicts an internal monster within. I believe true monsters come from inner demons. The character development was written well, and the story is fast-paced with many twists and turns. I especially like the character development of Dawn, Leslie's twin sister. She is Beau's girlfriend and is completely in love with the good image Beau portrays to the public. Her sister helps Dawn see the monster Beau really is. This realization helps release the hidden monster within Beau, which is a vital character influence for both Dawn and Beau. I recommend this book for a Halloween read. I'm looking forward to reading the second book in the series.
