Have you ever seen anyone driving a lowrider?  They're pretty cool aren't they?!  Now imagine one moving in space!

This funky graphic novel follows three car loving friends who visit a local car show.  Their amazing talents send them on a surprise adventure through the universe in their custom lowrider.

All three lovable characters are of Mexican American heritage, so the unique Mexican American speech allows this novel to stand out.  The cultural references are marked and explained at the bottom of the page.

The colorful graphics will keep both kids and adults interested.  Plus the there is some definite kid friendly humor that will make kids roll in laughter.

Opinion:

I thought Lowriders in Space was a very unique graphic novel.  I loved how the author,  Cathy Camper, used and explained the cultural terms.  These use of these terms along with their sense of humor really made the characters come alive and made them entertaining.  I paticularly enjoyed the jokes regarding Jupiter being a gaseous planet.

Personally I also liked how one of the main characters was a girl and she was portrayed as knowing a lot about cars and everything really.  She is very intelligent.

I thought Raul the Third's use of black, brown and red gave the illustrations a retro look that was really cool!  It fit totally with the whole lowrider idea.
