The Eye of Minds by James Dashner is a dystopian novel about a teenage boy, Michael. Michael and his two friends, Bryson and Sarah, are extreme gamers in a game network called the VirtNet. But the VirtNet isn’t like normal gaming consoles; it’s a world you can literally plug yourself into, making the virtual world all too realistic. When the VirtNet’s leaders contact Michael and his friends to ask them to go on a mission to find a notorious game player, Kaine, they are more than willing. But Kaine is a stronger force than they thought and even their life in the outside world is put in danger. This novel follows Michael, Sarah and Bryson as they travel through virtual worlds and fight evils.

Opinion:

I personally didn’t like this novel. I thought it could get very boring and long at points, and found myself not interested in it. I do like the overall idea of the book and think it’s very different and original. I would only recommend this book to someone that was interested in technology and video games, because it may be uninteresting if not. The book does flow and is action-packed. There are many suspenseful parts that caught my attention, but overall I found myself distracted and indifferent while reading this book.
