Parents and caretakers will enjoy reading this ABC book to babies and toddlers. Each page highlights a letter of the alphabet with a corresponding object that starts with the featured letter.

This meaningful book is one for children and parents to cherish. It helps children develop care for themselves and confidence in who they are as people. Most letters on each page have two corresponding affirmations. For example:
A: I am artistic. I am awesome.
B. I am brilliant. I am beautiful.
C: I am creative. I am confident.

Opinion:

Author Khadijah Wilson has put together a wonderful ABC book of affirmations for her own child. These are the things she speaks to her daughter each day, and we can all be impacted by them. They are affirmations we can share with our own children, friends, and ourselves.

Sharing affirmations is important at all stages of life, but sharing them with children from a very young age is crucial. This is the starting point for them to see how to talk about themselves. The way we talk to young children sets the foundation for the way they will talk about themselves as they get older.

While Azai’s A-B-C Affirmations is an ABC book meant for very young children, the affirmations can be enjoyed by children (and adults) of all ages. The things we say to ourselves shape the way we think about who we are. The more we speak positively to ourselves, the more we will internalize and believe those statements. The same is true about the way we speak to others.

This book is simplistic in design, but it works nicely for the intended audience. The pages are not crowded with text or images.

The back of the book provides a space to write your own affirmations. What would you say to yourself or a loved one?

With this book being an ABC book for children, I would have loved to see it as a board book instead of a paperback. When reading aloud to young children, they naturally want to grab the pages. This book is not currently durable enough to withstand curious young hands that are learning to handle books.
