Shadowed Ground (The Chronicles of Nowhere)
Synopsis: “The Chronicles of Nowhere is written in the style of a fan dance. Teasing, but never quite revealing everything, you’re always left craving more. Like some kind of addict, I’m now awaiting the next instalment with baited breath. Ms. Vicki Keire is, quite simply, brilliant. The world that she has built, and the characters she has populated it with, are so rich.” – Ginny Lurcock, Pure Textuality

Overview:

Shadowed Ground continues the Chronicles of Nowhere novella series, picking up from the cliff-hanger ending of its predecessor, Worlds Burn Through. As she wakes from a poisoned sleep with silver scars across her neck and back, her aunt’s diary may provide the only clues about the creatures of fire that hunt her. Through it, she learns of her own awakening powers, as well as more about Annwyn, the world of her childhood, now burned to ash.

As the world around them becomes increasingly hostile, Chloe and Eliot turn more and more towards each other. As the bonds of trust grow, they must be careful not to tread upon time-honored boundaries: those forbidding Guardians to act on feelings for their Wards. To do so would break the bond, and would leave Chloe unprotected as the pair makes their way to Gray’s Landing, and safety.

“The characters are fleshed out, real, the dialog spare but right on, the scene-setting effortless. The story telling is so good you forget there’s an author. I’ve read Urban Fantasy by well-known writers who could take a lesson from Vicki Keire. “ – Julia Rachel, Goodreads Reviewer about Worlds Burn Through

Milo Mitchell’s life used to be charmed, but that was before her father died, she went a little crazy, and her best friends started acting more like strangers. One Saturday morning as she roams the land around her family's Colorado wind farm, tagging deer for a project that used to be her father's, Milo makes a big mistake: a dart from her stun-gun takes down a teenage guy.

Dressed in a Brinoi tux and armed with a perfectly starched handkerchief, the guy looks like a young James Bond - or some country's missing, playboy prince. Trouble is, he could be either. Mr. Mystery has no idea who or where he is. Afraid her dart caused his amnesia, Milo takes him in, names him Nick, and tries to get used to a hot guy sharing her bedroom.

But Milo's Nick is more than he appears. Soon the pair find his face in a newspaper obituary, and Nick beings to have memories of Milo—who is sure she’s never met him. If 'Nick' survived a plunge off a steep cliffside on his way to a family camping trip, why did Milo find him dozens of miles away, wearing a freshly pressed tuxedo? If he's just a high-school athlete, why does he have moves like Jason Bourne? And why does he feel more for her than his surviving family?

When a train of black SUVs shows up on Mitchell property, Nick and Milo run—toward a shocking conclusion that could destroy both their worlds.
