A dragon slayer is always risking their life and Lottie Thorskard knew that, but it was still a shock when she hurt herself and was forced to retire. Instead of going on and living a normal life, the Thorskard family move to the small town Trondheim. Soon Lottie is training her 16-year-old nephew, Owen, to become the greatest dragon slayer out there. Due to the fact that Owen doesn't even play football he needs a Bard. A long time ago all the dragon slayers had a bard. A bard would write songs about the fights and tell stories to make the dragon slayer sound even more like a hero. Siobhan McQuaid, a 16-year-old composer, is tasked with being Owen’s Bard. Soon they are saving the town from a new hatching ground, training other teens to fight dragons as well, and getting Owen's grades up.
Opinion:
This is an amazing story which you will read in one day. When you read the discription you think it is going to be from Owen's perspective or even Lottie's. Never would you think it to be Siobhan, which makes it even more exciting because she is just as new to dragon slaying as you are, so you will share similar reactions. It has wonderful twists and will keep you up at night thinking about how it will all work out. Emily Kate Johnston is an amazing writer. This book is really appropriate and I would recommend it to age ten and up.
