K. Frances Carson’s Sir DoGoody Button and Fleabins the Great… Troublemaker is a collection of short stories recounting the adventures of Sir DoGoody, the Button’s family dog, and his partner in crime, Fleabins, the flea. Each day when Sir DoGoody retreats to his doghouse in the backyard, he pays a visit to Fleabins. Together, they explore many amazing rooms in the doghouse—the spy room, the pool room, and even the amusement park room. But, when these two come together, it is almost guaranteed that they will find themselves in some sort of trouble, not only in the doghouse, but also in the outside world.
Opinion:
Sir DoGoody Button is eager to please his owners; he tries hard to be a good dog. Fleabins, on the other hand, is adventurous and rather outspoken. Author, K. Frances Carson, uses great detail throughout this collection of short stories, with an emphasis on character development and descriptive language. Shannon McKeon’s illustrations contribute even more detail to Carson’s already thorough text. The black and white sketches throughout the book add humor and contribute significantly to the comprehension of the stories. This book will appeal to any child with a big imagination! A doghouse full of secret rooms (that any child would want to visit!) makes this book a great choice for independent readers at the elementary level, as well as a read aloud for younger children. Readers of any age can enjoy this quirky fantasy, so long as they’re ready to laugh, and gasp, at the adventures of this unusual pair.
