Two peas in a pod? Carbon copy? Twins may share a special bond, but they are “not the same person!” For a long while, Stella’s sister Paige has always been the assertive one, often speaking for the pair. Stella was content with this arrangement. But one day Stella gets a “BIG, burning feeling” when Paige cuts her off and speaks for her one too many times. Can Stella muster the courage to use her voice?
Opinion:
Marissa Bader’s Stella’s Brave Voice is a tender story of sisterhood and identity. It is simply written, making it easy for children to identify with Stella’s anxiety. Bader seamlessly offers help for such situations by demonstrating role play and using imagination. Thus, when Stella uses the techniques she has practiced with her mother and bravely uses her voice, the reader is able to share her triumph. The illustrations by Arlene Soto are bright, colorful, and enhance the text nicely. This is a wonderful addition to any bookshelf!
