Our Dark Stars is a book following Princess Talia Starchaser and Will Perrault and their amazing adventures through space. The two heroes live in times of turmoil and unrest. A war is going on that pits humans against mocks (robots) that have gone against their programming, and Talia's royal family is right at the center of it. Despite this turmoil, as a princess, Talia has everything she could ever want: a mock companion, money, and fame. Unfortunately, she's turning 18 and is going to be married off to a suitor she detests. Little does she know, her family is losing in the mock war and they desperately need this marriage to get more supplies. In the midst of the war, it is discovered that the mocks have become smarter than anyone could have expected.

While Talia is on her suitor's planet, he withdraws his offer of marriage because of clashing views on mocks. On the way back to her planet, her family's ship is intercepted by enemy mocks, and Talia's entire family is killed. Before being killed, her family sends her into space in a cryogenic pod to keep her and the Starchaser legacy alive.

One hundred years later, half-mock, half-human Will Perrault and his mock crew find Talia's pod, not knowing the importance of who she is. When Talia emerges from the pod, he thinks she could be the key to getting his fleet ship back. After some time together, however, Will learns she is the last remaining member of the Starchaser line. When some feelings that certainly aren't allowed by his mock programming start emerging, he decides to help Talia. Now being chased by the mock queen's entire fleet, Will thinks he might be in over his head. Can Will help stop the mocks? Will Talia be able to stop the Queen? Find out in this wonderful book!

Opinion:

Audrey Grey and Krystal Wade came together and wrote an amazing novel. You know that a book is a great collaboration when you can't tell who wrote what. Their work merges perfectly. They each have a unique writing style, and it makes this book one of the best I've read! The book itself has elements that remind me of the Cinder series by Marisa Meyer as well as Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. It's a fantasy novel with some dystopian content mixed with slight romance. With it being a futuristic book, Audrey and Krystal really let their imagination go wild. The characters were fleshed out and well-developed, mocks and humans alike. I especially liked Will as he was relatable and seemed the most human of the mocks. I would recommend this book for ages 11 and up.
