LitPick Review
From John Muir's childhood in Scotland to his adventures in Yosemite, Alaska, and in numerous other places between, Rod Miller describes the life of the mountaineer and explorer who was a driving force in the creation of many national parks in the western part of the United States. Detailed descriptions of all of Muir's life are provided, and Mr. Miller leaves nothing unexplained. Each chapter tells about a different part of Muir's life, and Mr. Miller revisits the same event two or three times to give a different perspective of it.
Opinion:
I found that the detailed descriptions that Rod Miller gave helped to create a picture of John Muir's life. However, soon after I started, the descriptions became a little too repetitious. The idea of coming back to an event a number of times during a span of a few chapters to tell a different perspective is fine, but it got to the point where facts were being repeated too often, detracting from the story. Despite this, "John Muir: Magnificent Tramp" gives the reader an enlightening view into a man who help to preserve the beauty of the United States.
