The Vogel sisters, Zen and Xander, are slowly spiraling out of control after the passing of their mother nearly a year ago. Both mourn in entirely different ways, some of which are not in their best interest. Zen, as a black belt, gets into fights that are hard for her to finish, and that also cause her injuries. Xander goes to parties, experiments with drugs, and adopts "slutty" tendencies with men. Things get crazier after the Vogel sisters find a secret about their mom that could tear the family apart. They embark on a road trip across the states with their best friend and neighbor, Adam, to find out the truth about their mother's past. Will they get the answers they want? Or will the truth rip the family apart forever?

Opinion:

Zen and Xander Undone was fantastically written. Amy Kathleen Ryan did a great job giving all the characters different and entertaining personalities. The way she described the setting made it feel as if you were in the story along with the characters. I thought the over-all plot was very well thought-out. The different scenarios and problems that both Zen and Xander faced were things that many teens would be able to relate to. I would definitely recommend this book to any young-adult reader.
