Ashley Asher is fifteen years old, and is sent to live with her father and his family, after being sexually abused by her stepfather for four years. She seems to be making progress, with the help of her therapist and her new family, but she still struggles with trying to forget the abuse she'd endured for years. With her guard built up, she starts school in her new hometown of Patience, Texas, where she meets all of these new people including her soon to best friend, ZZ. She joins the cross country team with her new friends, when a special boy catches her eye.
Eryn McCain is far from normal. Being half wolven and now dealing with the disappearance of her parents, she is moved to the small town of Redgrave and is ordered to act as normal as possible, in exchange for the Hunter Council finding out what really happened to her parents. The hardest part is being around the dangerous Delacroix boys, who seem to know all about the monsters living in Redgrave, and whom are taking the blame for all the mysterious crime happening. Eryn soon befriends the Delacroix family along with a girl named Brit, and the chief of police's son, Wade.
The Vogel sisters, Zen and Xander, are slowly spiraling out of control after the passing of their mother nearly a year ago. Both mourn in entirely different ways, some of which are not in their best interest. Zen, as a black belt, gets into fights that are hard for her to finish, and that also cause her injuries. Xander goes to parties, experiments with drugs, and adopts "slutty" tendencies with men. Things get crazier after the Vogel sisters find a secret about their mom that could tear the family apart.
