Scat, Carl Hiaasen's new children's novel is an invigorating story about a teacher at Truman Middle School who is suddenly missing on a trip to Black Vine Swamp even though she won't be missed by the students. However her students don't believe that she was called from her family emergency but rather Smoke, the class screw up is in on the plan. What will happen to the students at Truman? What will happen to the teacher, Mrs. Starch? Find out by reading this book.

Opinion:

Scat is a brilliantly engineered piece of literature. There are many mini-plots inside which add to the overall humor and comical aspects of the book. I especially enjoyed when Hiaasen talks about how the school came to be how the statue of the 200 pound founder had to be changed to petite President Truman. The plot is fast moving but ever changing. The beginning to middle of the book is like someone tying a really complex knot and the rest of the book is like someone unraveling the knot so it finally makes sense. I would recommend this book to everyone! It makes for a fantastic read!
