Caradoc has been sent to a small cult of priests; you could say that are training him to become his father's, the King, advisor. The young prince does not want to become part of this cult, and has found himself a new love in one of his teachers. The cult at which he is located believes in sacrificing people and animals in honor of the gods, so when Caradoc's love is to be sacrificed he jumps into action breaking all the rules and saving the young woman. To save Caradoc and his love he must truke through forests and planes towards his father's keep. There Caradoc asks the King his forgiveness for upsetting the gods for his trespassing of the ceremony, but the cult has began to turn towards the wrong paths. While at the keep Caradoc's brothers help them to prepare for any kind of attack and to distract them. Although there is something fishy about Caradoc's eldest brother who has been acting weird. One day the King grows ill on his wine. Someone has poisoned the wine, and is now running from the castle, that someone is the eldest brother. A great fight begins! The king's men win this fight, and as the battle clears Caradoc finds his fallen love dead by saving the King. This cliffhanger ends the first book of the trilogy.

Opinion:

Caradoc's journey is one of adventure, wonder, and that of a young prince becoming a man. This story started a bit slow but after a few chapters the story's pace hyped up and Caradoc's story became very interesting. His unrequited love is symbolized throughout the tale causing problematic circumstances beginning his journeys into manhood. The ending to this nail bitter keeps the reader on the edge of their seats in turmoil of emotions as they step into Caradoc's life. Its unexpected ending keeps you wondering, marking off the days on the calendar for the next installation of the series.
