Emanuella, or LL, is a freerunner and member of her brother Warp's Parkour group. One night Emanuella and the crew run into a graffiti artist named Haze. Haze flirts with Emanuella, and Warp becomes very protective of his sister. Why would Emanuella want to date a graffiti artist? To sidestep a confrontation with Warp, Haze and Emanuella start meeting in the art closet at school. Warp explodes when he finds out that Haze and Emanuella are secretly dating. Warp believes that Haze killed his own sister and tells Emanuella. Warp also believes that Haze is the artist of the mysterious paintings of Emanuella that begin to appear around town. Emanuella keeps her faith in Haze and tries not to believe the outrageous things Warp claims. Did Haze kill his sister, or is he the loving guy that Emanuella sees? Find out in this romantic mystery novel, On Edge.
On Edge is a romantic mystery thriller. The book is slow at the start, and it took time for me to visualize Emanuella and begin to understand her. Emanuella's friend Surge was, by far, my favorite character and seemed like the best friend I've always wanted. The mystery is perhaps the strongest aspect of the novel, and the intricate descriptions pull the reader into the story. I was shocked when the killer was revealed. One thing that I learned from reading this novel is to trust my gut instincts. I recommend this novel to readers above age 13 who enjoy romance and mystery.
