Darkwood is the tale of a thirteen-year-old girl named Annie. She lives in a place called Howland, where there seems to be no sunset. One minute, it's light. The next minute, it's dark. She attempts a daring escape from the house of her near abusive aunt and uncle and finds some odd things during her journey.

Opinion:

I found this book was fairly boring. There was too much detail and the characters of Annie's aunt and uncle were far too unpleasant. I understand that the author's purpose was to set up Annie's escape, yet she could have done so without making it unpleasant to read. The style of writing in general was dark, much in the fashion of "A Series of Unfortunate Events", only this was not done quite as humorous. This was simply not the kind of book that I enjoy. I would recommend this to people who enjoy books that have the underlying dark tone.
