About a boy from New York City who joins up in the army as a drummer boy. He picks up a gun and shoots a Confederate and then "Skedaddles."
Opinion:
Charley Skedaddleis a younger version of Red Badge of Courage. I enjoyed the history and the storyline, and I feel that this book is perfect for a 4th or 5th grader looking for a light fiction book about the Civil War.
