Cascade, the companion novel to Waterfall, by Lisa T. Bergren, is just as engaging, fascinating, and informative as the first book in the series. When Gabi and her sister Lia stumble back into their own time period, they convince their mother to journey back in time with them once more. When they return to the early 1300s, they find danger lurking and Castello Forelli under attack once more. Gabi and Lia find themselves at the center of a deadly battle between those they love and the barbaric enemies who will stop at nothing to get what they want. The two girls must face their archenemy, Lord Paratore, and also new threats, including the plague, but find help in unexpected places. Readers are taken on a thrilling journey to medieval times, filled twists and turns.

Opinion:

I greatly enjoyed Cascade, almost even more than the first book in the series, Waterfall. It followed a similar storyline to the first book in the series, but contained more twists in the plot line and also introduced more characters. The problems that Gabi and Lia face are very realistic for that time period, which adds to the credibility of the story. I especially like how fresh and engaging the narrator, Gabi, is. Her modern voice amid the medieval style of speaking helps the reader understand the dialogue, and also adds to the level of humor. My only criticism would be that both novels have been ended in a similar way, and the author should avoid doing so in her next book to prevent her from sounding predictable. Other than that, I loved Cascade and eagerly anticipate the next books in the series.
