This book was very detailed about horses’ lives back in 1877.  I really liked this, and it made me feel connected to the horse. This story is about what kinds of owners horses had to deal with and how hard it was at times and how happy it was at other times. I didn’t realize how cruel people could be to horses and what the animals had to go through. It felt wrong, and those people who did it didn’t realize how they were hurting them and slowly making it harder for the animals to do their "work." I think horses deserve caring owners who pay attention to them (not like some of those owners in the book).

Opinion:

I really liked this book and recommend it as a great, fast-paced story. I also really like how there is a comic book version and a text version of this book so you can read it in different ways. I read the comic version first, but the text version has much more detail, which was nice. I’d say the age category for this is around 9-12. You should try reading it if you’re interested in stories about horses.
