Ann Rinaldi writes a lot of very good historical fiction books that tell history through the eyes of a fictional character. This is a shorter one about a girl who lives in Hagerstown, Maryland during the Civil War. Although she tries to stay neutral during the war, in the end she does something that saves the day for her community.

Opinion:

This story is a true event that happened during the Civil War to Hagerstown.  The characters are interesting and help highlight the dilemma some people had during the Civil War concerning which side to support.  I found the ending very interesting and true to the history of the time.
