The Happy Prince and Other Stories
Harriet Golden, Oscar Wilde
Synopsis: Oscar Wilde (1854–1900) is deservedly famous for the brilliant plays and other works he wrote for adults. But he also was a wonderful writer for children, the author of two charming volumes of fairy tales. In this captivating collection you will find every one of the nine sensitive, unforgettable stories he wrote for young readers.
Included here are "The Happy Prince," a tale of a young nobleman who in his lifetime sought only pleasure, but in death, as a gold-encrusted statue, provides aid to the needy; "The Selfish Giant," in which children are prohibited from playing in the garden of an unfeeling colossus; and "The Star-Child," the tale of a beautiful boy whose ugly spirit causes his physical appearance to become equally grotesque. Also here are such favorites as "The Nightingale and the Rose," "The Birthday of Infants," "The Remarkable Rocket," "The Devoted Friend," "The Young King," and "The Fisherman and His Soul." Reprinted complete and unabridged, these enchanting tales will appeal to devotees of Wilde and fairy tale fans of all ages.

Pulling up Stakes and Other Piercing Stories
Synopsis: Many things can pierce – sharpened stakes, fencing swords, cat's claws, short stories, ideas, earrings, and love, to name just a few. This collection of eleven penetrating stories, gathered from my contributions to YA anthologies, contains some of my favorite pieces, including a slapstick account of a young man sent on a mortifying mission by the girl he loves, a tale about the mysteries of faith and belief, and a comedy of errors where a Transylvanian immigrant arouses suspicion in the darkness of the Alaskan winter. I've had the pleasure of writing short stories for the best anthologists in the YA world. Now, I have the pleasure of sharing those stories with my readers in one sharp collection.

About the author:
David Lubar attributes his passion for short stories to his short attention span and his lack of typing skills. He has written 27 books for teens and young readers. He also worked as a video-game programmer and designer, back in the old days when eight pixels was good enough for everyone. His books include Hidden Talents, Punished, Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, Dunk, My Rotten Life (Nathan Abercrombie, Accidental Zombie book #1), and the Weenies story collections, which have sold more than two million copies.

Gypsy Knights (The Gypsy Knights Saga)
Synopsis: Fourteen-year-old Durriken Brishen has lost his parents, his grandfather, and though he doesn't know it, his Gypsy culture's dangerous gift.

Taken in and raised on the rails by the first woman to pilot a freight train, Durriken has one remaining connection to his Romani roots: a small wooden box that hangs from the hammer loop of his overalls.

The last gift he received from his grandfather, the box contains the world's first chess set. But a piece is missing: the Red Queen. According to Durriken’s family lore, the complete set awakens the power of Tărie, a mercurial gift that confers unique abilities on each new Master.

When a suspicious fire erupts in the Chicago rail yard, Durriken's escape produces an uneasy alliance, though not without its silver lining. Dilia is a few inches taller, several degrees cleverer, and oh yes – very pretty. While Durriken is uneasy allying with a girl whose parents were convicted of sedition, there's no doubt she is a powerful partner. And while it's not immediately clear to either, her own Guatemalan culture and family history are deeply entwined with the ancient Romani mystery.

Jumping box cars, escaping riverboats, deciphering clues, crossing swords with the brilliant madman Radu Pinch – with great American cities as its backdrop – Gypsy Knights is the page-turning saga of Durriken Brishen and his quest to rediscover his past.

Don't Give Up, Said Mom
Christina Leigh Pritchard
Synopsis: Amazon Best Sellers Rank: voted #1 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Health, Fitness & Dieting > Death & Grief

Christina Black squirmed. Sweat dripped down her face and it wasn’t from the South Florida sunshine. Her mother's hair was gone. There were five or six bottles of pain killers lined up on the kitchen counter.

"Christina, where are you?" Mrs. Black called. "I want you to sit and read to me honey."

Christina's green eyes watered and she pushed back her black bangs. They stuck up slightly from all the sweat. "I'll be right in," she shouted. Her voice cracked a little. She grabbed her mother's pain pills and placed them on a tray with some toast. "Okay mom, I'm ready," Christina said.

She peered around the door to see her mother's head wrapped in a handkerchief. Her mom was so skinny and frail. A big lump clogged Christina's throat. There was saliva stuck in the corners of her mother’s mouth making her look half alive. Slowly Mrs.Black's eyes fluttered closed.

Christina put the tray down on the end table and crept out the front door. She raced towards her favorite spot. It was at the end of the street on a private boating dock. She collapsed onto the dock and burst into tears. Her mom couldn't have cancer. She was only thirteen. What would she do without her mother?

Kid Docs
J.W. Lynne
Synopsis: A perfect gift for kids, teens, or adults who dream of being a doctor!

CYBILS AWARDS NOMINEE!

What if you could be a doctor by the time you were fourteen years old?

Fourteen-year-old Connor Hansen became a doctor two days ago--along with all of his friends. They are child prodigies who were selected at just three years old to undergo intensive medical training as part of a controversial experiment called Kid Docs.

KID DOCS tells the story of Connor's first days as an emergency room doctor. Connor experiences his first pangs of love (toward fifteen-year-old obstetrician, Cassie), deals with his explosive older brother (a sixteen-year-old heart surgeon), and tries to figure out why his friendship with fourteen-year-old fellow ER doctor Hannah has suddenly changed. At the same time, Connor learns to save lives and discovers that some lives cannot be saved.

Author J.W. Lynne drew on personal experiences when writing KID DOCS: Lynne was once a kid and is now a doctor!

Praise for KID DOCS:

"Five stars. Amazing! I am actually speechless because it was so good ... I would read it over again ... I recommend this book to anyone." - Shelby, Goodreads

"Loved every little bit of it! Couldn't stop reading!" - Adam, Goodreads

"I'm ready for more! A five star book EASY!" - Pepper, Goodreads

"Intriguing ... Incredibly engaging ... I highly recommend this book. It's definitely a read you won't forget." - Amy, Goodreads

"The hospital setting was rich and accurate, with enough medical details to pique the curiosity of kids who might be so inclined, or to feed the fascination of adults who like to watch medical shows. I always appreciate dramatic suspense in a novel, and this one had it. Plenty of plot points kept me reading: finding out how the kid docs will react to the pressure, the fate of the patients who come into the hospital, and even the fate of one of their own." - Jennifer Donovan, 5 Minutes for Books

Don't miss this chance to slip behind the scenes into a world that few people ever experience first-hand, the life of a physician in training.

KID DOCS is an educational coming-of-age science fiction novel perfect for preteens, teens, and adults. It makes a great gift book for future doctors (whether they're in the final years of elementary school, middle school, high school, or college), medical students, interns, residents, and anyone who has ever wondered what it's like to go to medical school.
