Mission: Red Scythe follows the lives of James Vagus and his partner, Dakota Walker. Recruited as secret agents in the Cold War, these teens after several months of training, left for their first mission in Miami. What was to be a simple surveillance mission soon turned dangerous in a delicate twist of events, as these agents discovered a hideous plot by Van Heerden, which threatens the lives of many people. Resolute and determined to unravel this plot, these agents put their lives on the line for the safety of many. Racing against time, will James and Dakota succeed in overturning the plot? Or will Van Heerden succeed with his plan?
Opinion:
The lives of James and his partner, Dakota, were vividly described, helping readers grasp the full picture of these characters. James, an orphan who became a secret agent at a young age of 18, displayed prowess on his first mission. His observational and analytical skills, as well as his proficiency in several languages, were put to use and were immensely helpful in deciphering complex situations. His resolve and resilience are also worthy of note. Dakota, his partner, also displayed proficiency as a secret agent. Dakota's stealthiness helped him navigate risky situations with ease. His sharp sense of danger help turn dangerous situations around for both agents. James and Dakota trusted each other and were loyal to each other. Each one's strength complemented the other.
I like C.W. James's writing style. The storyline is a reflection of his impressive writing skills. The use of foreign languages at several points in the novel gave the book a distinct and unique tone. Yet, in a few instances, sentences in other languages weren't translated, creating a slight puzzle. This, however, didn't really disrupt the story's flow. The compelling storyline has an edge of suspense and unpredictability. The book despite being set in the 1960s, vividly portrayed structures, houses, and hotels that weren't too old fashioned and were relatable.
I recommend this book to fiction lovers interested in reading a thrilling story full of adventure, suspense, and action. Mission: Red Scythe triggers a feeling of excitement and curiosity making readers anticipate what comes next.
