Greta Zipp has always been in the same class as her best friend, Mari Yamada. “We've always had the same teacher. 'A' through 'M' in one class, 'N' through 'Z' in the other." But this year, the first year of middle school, the principal decides to switch it up. He couldn’t have picked a worse year. Greta has Mr. Hopper, a new teacher. That wouldn’t have been so bad, except Tiffy, the popular girl, and her minions happen to have Mr. Hopper as well. From a new "popular" girl to a teacher-parent romance, Greta’s world comes crashing down around her. Will a class election seal Greta’s fate or save the day?

Opinion:

The Boss of the Whole Sixth Grade is an eye-opening book for ages 10+. It is great for kids who are nervous about middle school or struggling in it. Ann Herrick is an adult who clearly understands the trials of middle school and is able to shine hope through them. The Boss of the Whole Sixth Grade gives an excellent picture of middle school and shows how good friends are like the sun peering through the clouds.
