LitPick Review
Alex’s parents are architects. While they’re traveling, she is supposed to be going to the International Exchange Academy… but she’s transported through a door to Medora, a secret world full of surprises. Alex learns that the only one who can send her home is a conveniently missing headmaster. Since she can’t get home, she attends Akarnae Academy for gifted teens. Alex meets Jordan and Bear and they become instant friends. Jordan’s gift is being able to turn invisible, and Bear can persuade people using his voice. Alex finds out that she’s chosen by the famous library, but so far, has no obvious gift. In the months that follow, she’s in the med-ward several times a week from classes and all her adventures in the library. Alex has to stop an evil guy named Aven from overtaking the world. Will she take the challenge and possibly uncover her gift? Or will she have the library take her home?
Opinion:
I really liked Akarnae because it wasn't predictable or unrealistic, and the characters never fought with each other. It wasn't predictable because it had lots of unexpected twists. One example is when Aven defeated Sir Camden. I really wasn’t expecting that! I liked this because the story didn't get boring. The story wasn't unrealistic, even though everyone had a gift. Their gifts weren’t crazy, like having magical abilities or being able to shape-shift. I appreciated that the characters never fought with each other because I don’t like it when people argue, and that made the story go smoother. I really liked this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy and adventure.
