LitPick Review
Running away from her home in Virginia seemed like Mary Harolds only way of escaping the cruel people that surrounded her; so she did. The thirteen-year-old prone to panic attacks knows she belongs with her Grandma Ayma. She makes the 691 mile drive by borrowing her mothers old truck and driving it all the way to Wren, Alabama. The small town of Wren immediately welcomes her and she is put to work on her Grandmas farm. Bud, Aymas farm manager, teaches her all there is to know about running a farm. She struggles without her mother but when an unusual friendship blossoms between Mary Harold and Buds daughter Dixie, they both begin to find certain strengths in themselves that they never knew were there.
Opinion:
Gigi Amateaus, A Certain Strain of Peculiar was a very addictive book! It was very difficult to set the book down and killed me when it ended. I was completely hooked within the first several minutes of reading and fell in love with the unique characters easily. A Certain Strain of Peculiar is well written and gives Mary Harolds perspective flawlessly. It is definitely one of the better books Ive read and I recommend it to virtually every reader out there.
