Waiting to Score, a novel by J.E. MacLeod, explores the life of Zach Chase. Zach is fantastic hockey player. Zach moves around a lot on account of his mother's refusal to settle down in a single town. Now, at sixteen, Zach's mom moves back to her home town, where her sister lives so she can work for her. Zach goes to a school with many problems, such as drug and alcohol use, where he's on the school hockey team. At his first practice, Zach quickly makes enemies with the team captain, an all around mean person. Zach also develops a crush on a teammate's twin sister, Jane. Zach has to overcome many different challenges to fit into his new school.

Opinion:

Waiting to Score was a fantastic book. Unlike most books that talk about high school, this one was really realistic. It talked about drugs and alcohol more openly than most books written for teens. For example, Zach's friend has a drinking problem and because he really good at hockey, his parents choose to ignore it. Also, this book deals with the loss of a classmate. In conclusion, Waiting to Score was a fantastic book.
