Zen and the Art of Vampires is a book about Pia Thomason. She is a strong willed, big boned, 39 year old, who is on a singles tour of romantic Europe. On the first stop of the tour, Iceland, she finds herself in the middle of the a cultlike religion, The Brotherhood of the Blessed Light, whose main goal is to rid the world of the Dark Ones, known better as vampires. She falls in love with a Dark One. The Brotherhood must choose to kill or forgive her.
The novel Josef Jaeger, by Jere' M. Fishback, is about an adolescent homosexual Nazi during the years while Adolf Hitler was becoming the head of Germany. In the beginning of this story, Josef, the main character, mother dies. Josef,being a child made out of wedlock, and never knowing his father, is sent to live with his openly homosexual Nazi uncle in Munich, Germany. His uncle has a very hot temper and is quick to judge every move made by Hitler, leaving him in some hot lava with his fellow Nazis.
Waiting to Score, a novel by J.E. MacLeod, explores the life of Zach Chase. Zach is fantastic hockey player. Zach moves around a lot on account of his mother's refusal to settle down in a single town. Now, at sixteen, Zach's mom moves back to her home town, where her sister lives so she can work for her. Zach goes to a school with many problems, such as drug and alcohol use, where he's on the school hockey team. At his first practice, Zach quickly makes enemies with the team captain, an all around mean person. Zach also develops a crush on a teammate's twin sister, Jane.
Cashay, a novel by Margaret McMullan expresses that even though someone might live in the projects of Chicago, a child can try and make it through the hardships that face her. In the begging of the book, Cashays sister, Sashay is shot and killed while they are walking home from school. Cashays mother goes into a down ward tumble after the funeral, beginning to use drugs leaving Cashay to her own devices. Cashay begins loosing feeling for all other people.
