The book A Drowned Maidens Hair is a really good book. The story takes place in the past during the 1900s in England. The main character is an eleven year old orphan girl named Maud who is short for her age, sings well, but always seems to get in trouble. The story starts when Maud is singing in an outhouse, a punishment for misbehaving, and is discovered by a woman who is looking to adopt an orphan. She is adopted by this old lady and her two sisters who are known as the Hawthorn sisters. Maud is told that she is a secret child and soon learns that the Hawthorne sisters are mediums and that they hold séances, when people gather to communicate with the spirits of the dead. They need Maud to help them fool the people they hold séances for with her voice and size which help her hide. Maud learns that she is playing a major role as a drowned daughter to a rich woman in a séance they are about to hold. Throughout the book Maud is faced with challenges and tough decisions to make. She struggles to find the true meaning of family.

Opinion:

I liked the characters in this book because they were well developed. The reader becomes excited to see what will happen next. This book was realistic but it is set in a period of time before ours. I enjoyed the book but the plot was quickly revealed and you could predict some parts; luckily the plot itself and the characters were so good it made up for it. This book is good for people who like complicated plots but if you dont like books that have quickly advancing plots this isnt the book for you. You can read this book, relate to it, and enjoy it.
