Russel is 15 years old, but still in the eighth grade at Hominy Ridge School. He thinks that the recent death of his disliked teacher, Miss Myrt, was fortunate and that his school might close up as a result. Little does he know how events can turn against him. With the new teacher come unfortunate occurrences for Russel and his friends.

Opinion:

This book did not really capture my interest. It was supposedly a comedy, but I found only a few parts that I thought were funny. The setting of the story did not seem like a good choice for a comedy and it did not offer much excitement for the reader. Even so, I think Richard Pecks story might appeal to readers interested in realistic fiction.
