The book, Kingdom of the Golden Dragon, is a sequel to City of the Beasts. Alexander, a boy, Kate, his grandmother, and Nadia, Alex's best friend are all also in this book, along with new characters. It takes place in a country in the middle of the Himalayas called the Kingdom of the Golden Dragon. It is a very peaceful country and people there live like people lived 60 years ago. There is a legend of a prophesizing golden statue, the Golden Dragon, which only the royalty of the kingdom can see. Alex, Nadia, and Kate travel there along with some cameramen to do an article for International Geographic. While there, Alex and Nadia become involved with a plot to steal the Golden Dragon and kidnap the king. They help the prince, the prince's mentor, and a girl they meet stop the plot and try to stop the crime. But something unexpected happens, and to find out what, read the book.
Opinion:
I LOVED this book. It is a great installment of this series. I could barely put it down. The plot got me interested in the characters and there was never a dull time. It reminded me quite a lot of City of the Beasts because someone was committing a crime on the unsuspecting, trusting, and isolated people. I loved the ending because it was surprising and made a lot of mysteries make sense. I also really liked that none of the characters turned out to be who you expected, except for Alex, Nadia, and Kate. Another thing that I liked was that Kate, who is usually cold and hard, started to become more soft and grandmotherly towards the end of the book. I recommend this book to everyone, although it is best if you read City of the Beasts first.
