"Good Luck Gold" by Janet S. Wong is a collection of short
poems.  It is very short and not even fifty pages.  This is
a quick read that is more for leisure and perspective than a
long rainy day.  The poems revolve around the author's Asian
heritage, particularly being Korean.  They discuss some
aspects of culture, such as food, jewelry, family, chores,

Smoke is about a twelve-year-old boy named Colton, and his pitch-black, 20 pound, Maine Coon cat, called Smoke. Colt and his mom move to California because of some problems between his mom and dad. One day, Colt's teacher, Mr. Viramontes, receives an e-mail from a soccer coach who was looking for two more players. Mr. Viramontes suggests that Colton and Manuel (who was also new) sign up. He and Manuel make the team and practice at Spring Lake Park with Manuel's family. Life is good for Colton until he lets Smoke outside one night for a midnight prowl.

Promise of the Wolves takes place approximately 14,000 years ago, in a place called WideValley, back when humans were still sort of evolving. The story is told from the point of view of a wolf called Kaala, the main character of the book. The lives of the wolves revolve around a promise made by Indru, one of the first wolves. The rules were: never consort with humans, never kill a human, and kill any wolf that has mixed blood. Kaala was born with the power to either help or destroy her pack and all of wolf kind.

The Sorceress picks up where The Magician leaves off. Nicholas Flamel (aka The Alchemyst) has decided to take the twins, Sophie and Josh, to London. Kind of a bad move since it's Dee's hometown, and The Magician has got A LOT of backup there. Mainly, Nicholas is trying to find a place to re-group and rest until he can figure out where to find Gilgamesh the King. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, Perenelle is still stuck on Alcatraz. Perry has yet to think of a brilliant plan to get off the island. By now, the Elders are getting impatient, Dee's Elder especially.

Children of the Dawnland takes place in Canada and most of North America around 12,900 years ago. It's about a twelve-year-old girl named Twig, who has exceptional Dreamer powers. She has terrible nightmares about the world ending with a flash of green light and a meteor. But her mother discourages her training to become a Dreamer because she fears that Twig will become too powerful and be cast out of the tribe like Cobia and Screech Owl. Despite her mother's wishes, Twig goes to see Screech Owl for advice and to become a Spirit Dreamer.
