In the book, Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment, the six main protagonists all have at least one thing in common: they can fly. Max, Fang, Nudge, Iggy, the Gasman, and Angel, who live by themselves in the middle of nowhere, are ninety-eight percent human and two percent bird. Before the events that occur in the story, Max and her family all escaped the clutches of the School, an institution where "scientists" perform sadistic tests on their subjects.
