Sally Vega lives a boring but contented life- until she meets a mysterious man named October Quinn on the way to work. Without even knowing her name, let alone her personality, he asks her if "she wants a ride," and she accepts. Sally does not know who this October Quinn character is or what his question means, but she decides her life is in need of a change. Quinn whisks Sally away on the adventure of a lifetime. They travel from city to city around the U.S. trying to solve a puzzle Quinn was given by a friend before the friend's death. Of course, Sally and Quinn are not without adversaries. Quinn's former acquaintances soon get in on the puzzle, and it becomes a race to solve it before the other team.

Opinion:

I believe that the main idea of this book was intriguing, but a couple of aspects could have been developed better. For example, at the exposition of the story, a brief description of Sally is given, and then the story jumps directly into October Quinn asking her if she wants a ride. She accepts; however, it takes a great willing suspension of disbelief to continue on with the story. It also needed a better transition. Maybe the author was trying to surprise the reader early on to draw them in, but I don't know that for sure and it didn't feel quite right to me. In addition, I thought the plot could have been developed better. I liked the main idea, but everything seemed so easy for the protagonists to accomplish. The author should have thrown a few more curveballs in their direction. I did think that the author used the events in the story very well to develop good characterization. I felt that I knew all of the characters at the end of the book. Also, the descriptions were very well written so I could see everything in my mind's eye.
